Upcoming Classes Prepare Adolescents For Changes At WCCH

Changes in body and personality are just a few of the challenges pre-teens and teenagers face.  Between Us Girls, a class structured for young girls ages 9-11 and 12-15, and their mothers or guardians, will be held Saturday, May 9, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the hospital’s Cafeteria Conference Room.  Age appropriate material will be presented in large and small group settings.  Presentations will be made by Dr. Kelly Fuqua, family medicine physician, and a registered nurse.  Topics of discussion for all age groups will include the physical and emotional changes expected during puberty, the importance of good hygiene habits, and healthy body image. Topics of discussion for small groups, based on age, will include menstruation, coping with peer pressure, building healthy relationships, pregnancy, and abstinence.  There is a $20 fee for each girl attending.  Class size is limited.  Please call (337) 527-4361 to reserve space.  

Just for Guys, an adolescent class offered by WCCH is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, May 13, from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the hospital’s Cafeteria Conference Room. Class sessions are designed for boys ages 11-15. Jason Fuqua, MD, family medicine physician with Calcasieu Family Physicians of WCCH is the featured speaker.  Dr. Fuqua will discuss subjects such as personal hygiene, understanding the reproductive system, pregnancy and abstinence, good nutrition, and the importance of building healthy relationships.  There is a $20 fee for each guy attending.
