Patient Safety

Patient safety isn’t just an initiative — it’s at the forefront of everything we do, every day. At West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH), we have examined every policy, procedure, and practice to ensure we provide care in the safest of environments. These efforts have caught the attention of several national patient safety organizations, resulting in awards and distinctions for the safety record we’ve become known for.

For the fourth consecutive time, WCCH was recognized with an “A” grade in the Spring 2014 update to the Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), and independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, Hospital Safety Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.

As the only hospital in Calcasieu Parish to receive an “A” grade since November of 2012, this accomplishment speaks volumes about our commitment to patient safety.  To see our scores as they compare nationally and locally, visit the Hospital Safety Score website at, which provides information on how the public can protect themselves and loved ones during a hospital stay.
